Well, it can be very easy if you do have to cooperation of the Site Admin who
can simply insert the New-List= [log in to unmask] in the old list header.
The List Owner cannot do this because of the lack of permission to change the
Notebook= line (this is because this line includes an actual directory path on
the host server and only Server Admins may change those values, for obvious
security reasons.)

I have had several occasions to move lists to L-Soft from 'un-cooperative' host
sites.

Here are a MAILTPL and list header that allow you mimic the effect of the
New-List= keyword when you have only the List Owner's limited permissions.

listname MAILTPL for the old host:
-------- cut here -----------
put listname.mailtpl pw=??????
>>> POSTACK1 &LISTNAME has moved!
.FO OFF
Notice: The &LISTNAME list has moved to a new home!

Your message posting will be forwarded for you this time,
but in the future please:

Send your message postings to &[log in to unmask]

Send all commands to [log in to unmask]

Search the archives at

>>> REQACK1 &LISTNAME has moved!
.FO OFF
Notice: The &LISTNAME list has moved to a new home!

Please send your message postings to &[log in to unmask]

Please re-send your command to [log in to unmask]

>>> SUB_CLOSED &LISTNAME has moved!
.FO OFF
Notice: The &LISTNAME list has moved to a new home!

Please send your message postings to &[log in to unmask]

Please re-send your command to [log in to unmask]
--------------  cut here ---------

Limited List Header for old host:
--- cut here ---
PUT listname LIST PW=3862815
* The listname List has Moved!
* New Address: [log in to unmask]
*
*  Review= Owner
*  Subscription= closed
*  Send= Editor,Hold
*  Renewal=  No
*  Notify=   No
*  Errors-To= Owner
*  Notebook=  Yes,/home/listserv/notebook/tlc,Weekly,Private
*  Auto-Delete= No
*  Digest=    No
* Owner= [log in to unmask]
*  Editor=    listowner@address
--- cut here ---

The old list has only 1 subscriber: [log in to unmask]

The rational is that since every post goes to the editor, the poster also gets
the POST_EDITOR template message which redirects them to the new list address.
If they try to subscribe they also get the same redirect message. If they write
to the generic owner address listname-request@... then they also get the
redirect message and the message is forwarded to the new host owner address as
well, as are any error reports.

IF they post to the old address, and you approve the post, it will be mailed to
the only subscriber, i.e. the new address which inturn send to all subscribers.

It doesn't function exactly the same as New-List= but it comes very close and
may help you if you ever have to do this and you are only a List Owner.
