TEXT/PLAIN (29 lines)
To edit the list DIGEST one GETs the digest, edits it, and PUTs it back.
However, this does not change the index of the digest, the listing at
the beginning of the digest listing the topics of the day, and how many
items there are for each topic (if more than one posting per topic).

On occasion, the listowner may want to totally remove from the digest an
item which should not have been posted in the first place, and all
reference to it. Editing the digest will remove the text of the item,
but there will still be a reference to it in the "topics of the day"
digest index, which appears at the beginning of the digest.

Say the digest index reads:

1. Joe's topic (3)
2. Dave's topic
3. Sue's topic (5)
  etc.

Ok, we remove the text of 2. Dave's topic, but the reference to it is
still in the digest index. Is there a way to remove that reference so that
the digest "topics of the day" reads:

1. Joe's topic (3)
2. Sue's topic (5)
  etc.

This has to be a technique usable by a listowner who is *not* a site
admin. Douglas [log in to unmask]
