Several:

1.  Not all e-mail clients are capable of properly interpretting
attachments.  For example, if you were to send me anything except
something formatted in straight text, it would be completely
unreadable and unrecoverable for reading for me.

2.  In sending over an encoded document, be aware that, if you have list
archives, it will use up a significant amount of archive disk space very
quickly if you do this often enough.

3.  There are other alternatives.  For example, the creation of a
temporary web page from which people can manually download any neccesary
material.  This deals with the first two problems very nicely.  All that
is neccesary here is mention of the web page somewhere within the list.
