These hosts (except the last which is MXed) are <NOW> PINGable.
My guess is that either some router (or its configuration) was
"down" or you had an off-campus circuit problem.
 
If you are using IBM's TCPIP on a VM system, you might try the
command:
 
SMSG SMTP QU
 
(you may get a lot of output).
