As well you should be... Jittery that is.

Don't do this.  Instead, do this...

Create your list.  Leave it Empty.  Send a one-time e-mail to your
list of names announcing the list, and telling them how to subscribe
if they are interested.  This will generate a certain level of hate
mail from the rabid anti-spam folks on your list.  To actually
subscribe them and have them start getting regular mailings from
the list will generate approximately an order of magnitude or two
greater levels of hate-mail.

To send the "one-time" mailing, look into the listserv "distribute"
function.
