If somebody enters or uses an address of the form  user@node  (e.g. fred@aol)
LISTSERV will accept it as valid, being in the old BITNET format (e.g.
XQV315@UICVM).  When mailing out to such addresses, LISTSERV will append
.BITNET to the address, changing it into  [log in to unmask]  All fine up to
this point, but since BITNET no longer exists, this doesn't/can't go anywhere
so it bounces as an error.  It is possible that this address format remains
supported internally by LISTSERV for local use on the few remaining VM systems
on which LISTSERV is running.
