LISTSERV technology (can) handles multiple lists. Thus
GET fn ft
to the listserv does NOT know, unless the fn/ft is listserv@host unique,
that that file is YOUR list's file. That is, there can be multiple
fn/ft stored on the listserv with the same exact name, which are
completely unrelated. From time-to-time this happens on listservs that
have a lot of files and lists: how does a list-owner coordinate the
fn/ft with the 100's of other list-owners at a given site e.g., PSUVM,
UBVM? Answer: they don't. Frequently (but NOT always) the listname,
used as the filelist extension, IS the discriminator/qualifier. Thus
GET fn ft fl
(fl is the optional filelist (listname) if there is one and only one
unique fn/ft combination within that listserv).
Properly documented GETs will include fn ft fl to prevent fn/ft
overload when collisions occur.
For the adventuresome, try the command
Q F fn ft fl (FLAG
sometime.
