There is a mention of this in the Site Manager's manual, section 7.2.1 which fails to explain what they actually are for or what they do, and is UNIX-specific so someone who is not in that environment (and also new to managing a lists server) would easily believe the are not applicable to them. It simply lists some alias entries that should be configured in a mail handler agent, of this form:

    NAME-signoff-request
    NAME-subscribe-request
    NAME-unsubscribe-request

So messages sent to such an address require neither subject nor body, since both are ignored if present.

Apologies if this is covered in the manuals, but I can't find it
anywhere, even though a vague memory persists of having come across it
somewhere. Is there a way of sending a blank e-mail message to a special
LISTSERV address in order to subscribe to a list, which avoids having to
put a SUBSCRIBE line in the body of the message. Perhaps something like
<subscribe-listname@domain>?
