We have set up a limited anonymous server here at the U of I Counseling
Center so that students can participate in e-mail based support groups
without revealing their identity to each other.  We are using local
listserv lists to manage the groups as this automates the process and
provides archives, etc, for new members to peruse.
 
There is no problem with people posting to the list, either anonymnously
or "in the clear", but when the messages are sent out, they are
delivered only to non-anonymous addresses.  The only way to participate
anonymously is to have two subscriptions, one "clear" (regular)
subscription to receive mail, and one anon subscription to send mail.
This can get somewhat confusing to those who are new to the electronic
environment, and is also less confidential, even though I have them set
to REVIEW=OWNER.
 
I read the post where someone mentioned the problem with columns 93-94
being "AA" and those people not receiving mail.  (These are all
SUBSCRIPTION-BY-OWNER groups, so everyone is ADDed.) I went through the
lists and deleted all the "AA"s but I still cannot send to anon
addresses.  I have no trouble at all sending regular mail from the VM
machine that hosts listserv to anon addresses, so I don't see why
LISTSERV can't send mail to the same address!!
 
The addresses are in the form of:  [log in to unmask]
With each person being assigned a unique number.
 
Any insights into how to cope with this problem would be appreciated.  I
have asked the local listserv administrators and they are as baffled as
I am.
 
By the way, can anyone explain to me the significance of columns 93-94?
On another list I "own" there is an alarming range of letters and
numbers in that slot:  AI AA AD AM /9 // /P /d are some I have seen.
Can anyone decode these?
