I have checked through many megabytes of the LSMTP mailer logs. The only mail
that LISTSERV/LSMTP actually delivered to your address in that time has been
FROM: [log in to unmask] or mail FROM:<> both of which are normal
LISTSERV return addresses for command messages or queries, i.e. you were not
*mailed* any messages from any of the above lists or others. While I can't
tell for sure what is happening inside hotmail.com, I can be sure the list
mail messages you have in your hotmail.com mailbox were not mailed from L-Soft
so they must be coming from some internal screwup at hotmail.

I was finally able to prove this duplication is entirely the fault of
hotmail.com:

This is the LSMTP mailer log that shows only 1 copy of the file was sent to
hotmail:

Here are the hotmail.com mail headers:

Note that the hotmail msg ID increments by 1 to 821 and the time is 5 seconds
later.

Note the spoolID from LSMTP is identical meaning the source of the message is
the same, i.e. there is only one message received from LISTSERV/LSMTP.

 same story here...

and again, except the time did not increment.

and yet again, only the time incremented by only 1 second.

So clearly hotmail.com has at least a couple of screwups. Here is a 3rd one
(may only be obvious to people who understand SMTP protocols):

What's wrong with this picture?

22:20:38 ( 57)O opened HOTMAIL.COM mail.HOTMAIL.COM
22:20:38 mail.HOTMAIL.COM( 57) >>> 220-HotMail (NO UCE) ESMTP server ready at
Sun Dec 27 19:19:42 1998
22:20:38 mail.HOTMAIL.COM( 57) >>> 220 ESMTP spoken here
22:20:38 mail.HOTMAIL.COM( 57) <<< EHLO home.ease.lsoft.com
22:20:38 mail.HOTMAIL.COM( 57) >>> 500 Syntax error, command unrecognized
22:20:38 mail.HOTMAIL.COM( 57) <<< HELO home.ease.lsoft.com
22:20:39 mail.HOTMAIL.COM( 57) >>> 250 Requested mail action okay, completed

(For those that don't know, the answer is hotmail says "ESMTP spoken here",
the HOME server responds with EHLO, which is the proper response to initiate
Extended SMTP, hotmail then says "syntax error" meaning: 'we don't do that
here', so HOME backs-off to standard SMTP protocol. In short, the hotmail
server claims it supports ESMTP but actually does not. This is true of all
the hotmail MX machines, of which there appears to be 8.)
