As I understand it, when you write a letter to someone, the content is yours -
you own the copyright - but the letter belongs to the person it was addressed
to. That person cannot, I believe, publish the letters in another form without
your permission. Would the same apply to email? regardless of whether it was
addressed to right person or not?

On my PHARMA-MKTING list I tell users that they own the copyright to the content
of their posts but grant me the right to reproduce that content in archives,
etc.

I don't warn them about other people copying what they post, although I do say
that what they post may be visible to all members of the list and the Internet
in general (we have a public archive).
