OK, I think I get it.  (Couldn't find the LISTSERV TIPS file.)  If I set
ACK= YES, senders get notification by MAIL.  If I set ACK= NO, senders
get an interactive message.  Is that it?  Must be, my one list has ACK= NO
and the one that's sending mail has ACK= YES.
 
I'm still interested in hearing more on the file server functions and how
in the blazes to access them.
 
Sorry to send such a hasty question across the net, but I was panicking!
