I've done quite a bit of this on the LISTSERVer at NDSUVM1. We
are distributing children's artwork this way. If you want to
take a look, do a GET KIDART FILELIST to see what we have.

We have stored binary files. These can be retrieve by FTP in
binary mode. There is a retrieval option that is supposed to
UUEncode the file when using GET, but I was not successful with
it. We had some files stored in both binary and UUEncoded
formats so people could FTP the binary or GET the text UUE file.

In addition to the waste of file space, people had trouble
retrieving the correct file. Most of our users have never done
either FTP or UUDecoding before. We have stopped using the
binary files. I do the UUEncoding before I PUT the file on the
system, so from the listserver point of view, it is just another
text file.

I'm not on NDSUVM1. When we did the binary files, I was not able
to do everything myself. Now that we are using text files, I can
do it all.
