I really hate to sound like a free marketeer, but my assumption is
that people use AOL or Hotmail largely because of cost
considerations.  If you don't get the service you want, you look
around for someone who'll give it to you at that price, or you pay
more for it.  If lots of people drop AOL because of this bizarre
filtering, they'd probably pull their socks up.  And if it were me, I
wouldn't much care whether they did, because I'd have found an ISP
that served my needs.  I only have a dozen AOL subscribers on any of
my lists, and I've written them to ask if they've been missing
messages.  If they have, and are concerned, I think I know what my
advice will be.
