I guess I was being influenced by the lengthy delays since mail between
uga.cc.uga.edu and ra.msstate.edu usually takes a few seconds -- it's so
fast most of the time that it appears to be instantaneous. Now that
Princeton has entered the picture, my list mail from UGA is taking 12-15
HOURS to arrive.
I mentioned the problem on WORDS-L and have gotten responses from several
people saying that their mail has also started following strange routes
and taking longer. I can't give the details right now -- this is a very
quick e-mail break between classes.
My local guru who wrote our archiving program is going to add me to the
archive address temporarily so that I can compare the headers. I noticed
last night that the archive mail was arriving promptly (the address is
[log in to unmask] -- my address is [log in to unmask]) while
my mail was not getting here at all. The missing mail from yesterday is
arriving this morning. Apparently it spent the night at Princeton.
Hope this message is making sense. I'm in a huge rush. When I win
Publishers Clearinghouse Sweepstakes, I'm going to quit teaching English
so that I'll have more time to play with computer mysteries.
Thanks for the various replies! I've been skimming through them
hurriedly and saving them for when I have more time to think.
