His hosting site is trying to enforce a 5 year limit on archives and there are
around 300 lists that will be losing pre-1999 archives in early July. Many of
the owners want to download the old archives and have them available for
reference completely independant of the mothership. Having this look like
Listserv is less confusing and I was most disappointed that Listserv Lite
doesn't support a search function. The only function the second header would
have would be as an ACL for the old archives, there was no requirement that
the ACL be derived from or stay in sync with the "real" list.

As an aside, lists run their courses and sometimes reach a point where they
can die, having fulfilled their mission, but the archives may still be of
interest. What's needed here is a "Search Lite" that impoverished owners
can use to permit access to the archives, with no traditional list function
whatsoever... sort of Listserv with a .NOT. function applied to the Lite
switches ;-)
