This has been said before, but it might be worth saying again.

It's a good idea to avoid this if you possibly can. Once you've broken
a policy that archives are just records of what people posted and are
not edited, it's easy to get sucked into editing everything. People
are _often_ embarrassed by what they said in the heat of the moment,
and once they know that (a) it's there for anybody to see and (b) you
can change it, well . . .
