Put another way, there is a new version of LISTSERV for VM now in test that
is designed to work in the Internet without BITNET. Two well known former
BITNET nodes are now running test versions of this code, and the folks who
run UIUC's VM systems a) should be aware of this and b) should be able to
get it if they want to pay for it. Point b), of course, is the sticky
point: it's not free anymore. Between that and normal "my platform can
beat up your platform," politics, it's possible that the CSO folks at UIUC
might not care about this, but it remains an option for those who want it.

Just a thought,
Nick
