A person who is subscribed to no specific topics is, in fact, subscribed to ALL topics. It may be that the REVIEW command counts such subscribers in EACH topic total. This would also explain the similarity that you mention and the spot check that showed no subscribers to the SmileRoadies topic.

Hi,

I wanted to start one of my list topics out on a clean slate, so I did:

  SET SMILE-L TOPICS: -SMILEROADIES FOR *@*

The response I got back suggested that everyone was removed from this
topic, since it showed many setting changes.

HOWEVER... When I do a REVIEW SMILE-L TOPICS SHORT NOHEADER I get the
following:

*  Topic                    Subscribers
*  -----                    -----------
*  Admin                         14,946
*  Smileadvice                    6,777
*  Smilechat                      6,873
*  Smileclean                    15,064
*  Smilefit                       6,976
*  Smilenaughty                   9,307
*  Smilenews                      6,834
*  Smilepics                      6,841
*  Smilepolls                     6,899
*  Smileponderings                6,926
*  Smileroadies                   7,216
*  Smilesites                     6,798
*  Smilewarmth                    7,917
*
*  "Other" topic                  6,717
*  Digest/index subscribers          11
*
* Total number of users subscribed to the list: 15321

Here are the problems:
1) Why does my list still show 7K+ people on the topic I specifically
'erased' everyone from? ("SmileRoadies")
2) Why are the subscription numbers for all topics so similar (some of my
topics clearly are not meant to be as popular as others... and it seems
highly unlikely that they would attract such similar numbers)
3) When I did a spot check of 15 names via the admin web interface, indeed
none of records indicated that the person was signed up for
"SmileRoadies"... suggesting that my SET command *DID* work.

Any info or advice on this situation would be most appreciated!!!

Regards,
