Hello All,

Our mailing list has recently received several automated Listserv
replies that were sent in reply to messages sent the listname-request
address of several other mailing lists on our list server. Apparently,
a message using our list address was sent to the listname-request
addresses by a spammer. Listserv then sent the automated replies to
our list address. I was able to duplicate the behavior by sending a
message myself to our own listname-request after changing the from and
reply-to fields to our list address.

We only allow subscribers to post to our list, but it seems that
Listserv itself can post to the list regardless. The Listserv version
is 1.8d on OpenVMS.

Is there something amiss in our list configuration? Is there something
I or the server administrator can do to prevent this from happening in
the future?
