Yes. The usual procedure is to GET your existing Welcome file, edit it, then PUT
it back. Sending a PUT message with nothing after your PW will delete it.

Yes. That is the "Farewell" file. Works exactly the same as the Welcome file, just
substitute Welcome with Farewell.   These two files are separate from ALL other
"messages" that can be customized.  With those, you create a listname.mailtpl
file and insert only those templates (from the default.mailtpl file) that you want
customized for your particular list. All this is pretty basic stuff and you should
read the manual. Also you may want to use the web interface instead of the email
commands since it is easier to use and understand for new list owners. That URL
should be:   http://yourlisthost.com/scripts/wa.exe   or perhaps
http://yourlisthost.com/cgi/wa.exe
