We don't set size limits within LISTSERV. Size limits are set on our Exchange server and also within Office365/EOP. We operate both an on-premises Exchange environment and also have an Office365 instance. All inbound/outbound messages are processed through Microsoft EOP (an Office365 component). Our maximum message size is 23.5MB, which allows for a 17MB attachments. Messages grow by roughly 35% when uuencoded for sending through SMTP.

Subject: message size

I have asked this before, but wanted to check. A user is receiving this; I don't like huge messages going out, but am sure to be told that "it did not used to be this way". Actually, since the mail service on campus is MS Office 365, I'd say it was them, but the error ids our list server. What is the typical max you are allowing? --Joe

Your message wasn't delivered to anyone because it's too large. The limit is 9 MB. Your message is 18 MB.

Your message is larger than the size limit for messages. Please make it smaller and try sending it again.

listserv.cc.uga.edu gave this error:
SMTPSEND.OverAdvertisedSize; message size exceeds fixed maximum size
