Hello,

is there anybody who has to deal with German umlauts (ä, ö, ü) or
other non-ASCII characters in the subject of mails?

In the list I am subscribed to the users often do not remember to
restrict to ASCII characters in the subject. Different mail clients
treat the umlauts differently, some encode them according to MIME,
some don´t and some seem to use other methods of encoding. So after a
few replies, there are several different subjects which are treated
as new threads. Therefore threading bei subject is not working.

The same problem is caused by MS Outlook, which in the german version
writes "AW:" instead of "Re:".

Is LISTSERV able to exchange uncorrect characters in the subject by
other characters, e.g. "ae" instead of "ä" or "Re:" instead of "AW:"?
How is the configuration done?

Schöne Grüße
