I've been around since long before Compuserve. I also understand traditional Usenet quoting style. All I was saying is that my users won't accept that draconian policy. It will generate a bunch of complaints and then a manager will walk over and insist that I remove such filter. In my environment. If only Microsoft Outlook had an easy flip switch to change quoting style for each message on the fly. But that isn't going to happen. It was an honest question!

Well... there's no need to be so snarky. I've run this particular list for almost 20 years. I've never had a negative comment on the insistence on removal of the message one is responding to.

I come from the experience of managing forums on Compuserv where it was considered very poor form to re-post messages ... downright rude in fact. That just carried over to lists here. There is nothing beneficial to anyone if message(s) get repeated over and over and over and over ... if users use digest mode. Maybe that's why the nearly 1,000 users seem to appreciate the structure.

Note: I removed your message and the long message you replied to. Took me less than 15 seconds.
