Hi All,

Is it correct that a user is not recognized as logged in, whether or not
password has been saved in a cookie, when she accesses the 'Join or
leave list' page from the main archive page, unless she has performed
some other action requiring authentication?

What happens from web interface for our page, which has posting and
viewing of archives restricted to subscribers, is that if a subscriber,
tries to view an archive file, for example, she is either prompted to
login, where password has not been saved, or listserv authenticates from
cookie and presents the archive file. If she then returns to the main
page, using 'Back to [Listname]' link, and goes to the 'Join or leave
list' page, the appropriate display for a subscriber is shown on the
page.

However, if subscriber's first action is to click the 'Join or leave
list' page, the page displays the NOLOGIN setup, whether or not password
has been saved in cookie. Then, if she clicks the 'Login with Listserv
password', either (1) the 'Login required' page displays if password has
not been saved or (2) the 'Join or leave list' page is redrawn to the
appropriate display.

In other words, unlike for links to post, archive file, or manage the
list, clicking on 'Join or leave list' link does not invoke whatever is
being used to authenticate. Therefore, the conditional blocks of
SUBEDIT_MAIN don't trigger unless the user has been authenticated
through some other action.

I tested with Navigator 4.08 and Opera 3.62 with the same results. I
don't have IE to test with.
