No. They are run-time variables that are replaced by certain values at the
time the msg template is used to create an outgoing administrative message.
The recipient never sees the variable names, they are replaced by
appropriate values such as date, time, user@address user_name, listname,
etc. They must be in all caps in the mailtpl for LISTSERV to find and
replace them correctly.
