John, the $DEFAULT MAILFORMs are one way, but as I already wrote to Julie,
1.7f lets you store a <listname> WELCOME and a <listname> FAREWELL file
along with your archives (if you are set up that way, of course).  Rather
than bother my postmaster (!) that's what I use.
