Maybe this will help. (It is a more or less condensed summary of
info in this lists archives).

First of all, the default setting is "attachments= yes" (see the
on-line L-soft manual), so, if you want attachments you don't have to
change a thing. .

Blocking attachments is something else again. Several months ago I
tried to reconfigure two lists by adding the key word "attachments=
no". What I found was that neither my server's software nor the
DOWNLOADABLE L-soft manuals available from the L-soft website were
fully up to date; nor was the auto-respond information produced by
the INFO KEYWORDS command.. ONLY THE ONLINE MANUAL WAS FULLY
UP-TO-DATE. (I don't know if this is still be the case.) Result:
when I added the keyword "attachments= no" I got the following (which
may be what you got):

>Warning: There is no keyword by that name - check the spelling.
>Please refer to the list keyword documentation (available via the
>"INFO KEYWORDS" command) for more information about keyword syntax.
>Since only warnings have been issued, the list will be stored anyway.

Despite the warning, "attachments- no" successfully blocked most
attachments. HOWEVER, the autorespond message that went back to the
senders of attachments confused them totally. It said:

>Mail template "BAD_ATTACHMENT" not found.

And to be sure, because my server was using out-of-date software, I
could find no bad attaachment template on my lists' web interfaces
to tell them that their attachments were blocked. Happily for me, a
knowledgeable colleague told me I could make up for that modifying
the lists' MAILTPLs myself. This I easily did, following the
instructions in the manual. (I cannot recall the instructions off
hand, or I'd tell you how here. All I recall was that the first
time I did it it didn't work--because of a typo. Once I corrected
the typo, it worked perfectly.)

Later I found the exact text of L-soft's own bad attachment template
in this list's archives (Message from Ben Parker, February 13, 2001).
Here it is.

As for my host updating its listserv software: on May 21 Ben Parker wrote:

Caveat: Of course only L-soft can take care of the problem of
out-of-date downloadable L-soft manuals and autoresponse to INFO
KEYWORDS. Maybe it has already done so. I have not checked.

Good luck,
