Well, it's true that I don't understand the concept, but that's not
the problem. The problem is that I'm both subscribed _and_ not
subscribed to the Swedish version of the list. I suspect it's a
problem with the way the lists are shared, because (AFAIK) I never
subscribed to the Swedish list (and the listserv there confirms that).

Nope.
The explanation of why the list continues to be peered seems a
little, well, wistful to me:
