We can use interactive bitnet. I don't do it very often because mail is
more reliable. A command sent via mail gets there sooner or later. A
command sent interactively vanishes if nodes are down. As I said, I
normally use internet mail because it goes faster than even interactive
bitnet messages. When I first became owner of a list in another state,
I tested the speed many, many times. I would send an interactive bitnet
command to the listserv first and then the same command via internet mail.
I would receive mail confirmation that the internet command had been
received and acted on before the interactive bitnet command got there.

It's not up to me to decide. I have no official connection with the
Computing Center. I have, however, told my friends in the CC that I see
no particular usefulness of bitnet -- at least not now that we can edit
list headers via mail. I did use bitnet for that single duty with the
previous version of listserv.
