I don't know whether there are conventions. I used to ask
every time I wanted to lift something and post it on
PHILOSOP. Based on responses I got from people, I now don't
ask about conference announcements, and things of that kind.
I would not, of course, use an *essay* without asking the
author's permission.

Can anyone tell me if there are rules, conventions, strictures, traditions gove
rning postings that are "lifted" from one list and reposted on another? Is it c
ommon practice to ask the permission of the originator of the posting?
