There is a new virus--or a new variation on an old virus--making the
rounds, and it's hitting everyone hard. I've gotten at least a hundred
messages with infected attachments today, and my name and address have
been spoofed in the "from" line of others that I'm being notified about.
Common subject lines are "Your application," "Thank you," and "Your
details"; the message is "Please see the attached file for details."

If your name is in anyone's address book, or within a message saved on
anyone's hard drive, and that person's computer is infected, messages will
be coming to you and appearing to be going out from you with the infected
attachment along for the ride. Unfortunately, there isn't anything you can
do about it, even though it's embarrassing to know that others think
you're spreading the virus when your own computer is not infected. But
believe me, you are not alone; our IT guy says he's gotten 20 such
messages in the last hour, and I've gotten at least 5 in the last couple
of minutes. There will be a lot of people going home from work today to
discover that their inboxes are overflowing with these messages!
