Hi Gang:

Many of you know about or have heard of FEN. I have been on lstown-l
for the last 18 months (mainly lurking) because I can not answer
questions with the knowledge of Nathan or Peter or others! :-) When
we started FEN, we never thought we would reach this point.

FEN just became a fee-based service (with very low rates) -- please
no flaming; I know some of your feelings about charging but
it was the only way we had to keep FEN a permanent part of the
professional landscape in economics. We cannot get funding from our
universities, associations, etc. (I think because of massive budget
cuts -- you know the story), but we are still looking.

We will likely migrate our lists (now 2) to the Windows NT version
or perhaps the Windows 95 version of listserv running off a
dedicated PC. Yes, I do like listserv; it meets most of our needs. We
will slowly be expanding the number of lists. Currently FEN has a
membership of about 3400 people; and given our profession I expect
it to continue to run between 3000 to 4000 people over the next year.

Question: (For those interested) - We are looking for someone to take
over the management of our mailing lists (adding, deleting subscribers;
checking mail bounces -- all the fun stuff :-) that listowners know
about. (Eric, I do know about L-Soft's list hosting service and we are
considering those rates as well.) However, I have been asked to determine
what a current listowner might charge us to manage these lists (either
on a per hour basis or for a fixed fee over a year). I do not want to
train someone from scratch.

If you might have some interest or any questions, please CONTACT ME
DIRECTLY at [log in to unmask] Also, I have phone numbers in my
signature. The position would NOT be available immediately, but likely
in mid to late summer of 95. And we are considering L-Soft's list hosting
service. But no decision has been made.

Cheers Wayne
