The correct syntax to subscribe to a list is SUBSCRIBE <listname>. If you
use this syntax, then you will be subscribed to the list:
1) under the name held for your email address by the listserver, if there
is one (this is a common pool for all lists at the server, and I believe
it's held after you leave, so you may resubscribe to a list later this way)
2) if no name is held for your email address, then you have no alias on the
list (the way messages are forwarded; they'll just say "From:
[log in to unmask]" instead of "From: Joan Korenman ([log in to unmask])")
Putting firstname lastname gives the listserver your name for the file.
Hope I got this right.
