TEXT/PLAIN (50 lines)
I am the editor of 2 groups running on LISTSERV 1.8d, and I
encountered a problem when trying to use the web interface to change one
set of texts, mailed out to folks submitting items to the list.

(*) Message sent to user when posting is forwarded to editor [POST_EDITOR]

PROBLEM:
Because I have a significant number of non-subscribers who send in
job ads, I want to customize this automatically generated response to
tell folks what is happening to their email submission. I have no
problem getting LISTSERV to process my text, but the formatting comes out
LEFT & RIGHT JUSTIFIED, every time. And the entire message is
transmitted as one giant paragraph.

Technically speaking, the info from my message is there, but it
looks like crud (without any paragraph breaks).

.FO OFF and .FO ON simply do not work with this template!

I looked through LISTSERV's manuals, and I checked the archives for
the LSTSRV-L, and can only find a suggestion (that has not worked for
me). I contacted the person who raised a similar question in 1997, and
she told me that the solution suggested to her did not work for her either!

Is this is a case of a LISTSERV template that is somehow carved in
stone, that listowners cannot really modify?

In glancing through the archives, I see that "some" of the form
letters are hard coded, but there does not seem to be a listing in the
LISTSERV manuals of which templates are locked, which templates are
partially adjustable, and which ones are totally under our control as
list owners.

Am I the only list owner who would like to create some customized
messages?

I changed other messages to remove mentioning BITNET addresses, and
also eliminated some wording that would not pass muster with a grammar
checker.

Thank you for your assistance in this matter... I will of course
share any results with the entire list.
