We have a list that uses a notebook line like

* Notebook= Yes,X1/316,Separate,Public

We had two stray postings in June, so I deleted them and hoped the
numbering would pick up "correctly" - that is, the way I wanted it to.
There are monthly postings, so the log names now look like

 LISTNAME 96-00001 H1 V 73 606 8 1/29/96
 LISTNAME 96-00002 H1 V 75 499 6 2/29/96
 LISTNAME 96-00003 H1 V 73 672 9 3/29/96
 LISTNAME 96-00004 H1 V 73 537 7 4/30/96
 LISTNAME 96-00005 H1 V 73 539 7 5/31/96
 LISTNAME 96-00008 H1 V 75 561 7 6/28/96

How can I get the numbering back in order? I'd like 8 to become 6 and
then have the next one be 7. I noticed a LISTSERIAL line in the PERMVARS
FILE. Looks like this controls it. Dare I reset it?
