Wondering if someone can tell me why, on some occasions, when I
forward mail into the list that I moderate (I use a VM/CMS & LMail
account), something sometimes happens that Results in a "Invalid
RFC822 field ... " Comment line. The original return address header
gets replaced with my name and return address, and the original
subject line gets stripped, so there is a "no subject" line. We
recently updated to 1.8a, though I believe this sometimes happened
when we were on 1.7f.

Usually, when I forward mail in from the editors' list (seredit)
to the main list (serialst), the resulting display of the message
on the main list has the original sender's name/address and subject
line in it. However, occasionally, the original senders' name and
subject line gets stripped. I'm guessing LISTSERV somehow can't
recognize info. in the original header and replaces it with mine.

But what else is going on here? Is there a way that I can figure
out that I'll lose the originator's name/address and subject line
*before* I forward in the message, so I can maybe edit the message
ahead of time to include a subject line? Is there a way I can
anticipate an invalid RFC822 field (hypothetically, if a non-techie
engages in reading RFC822 does it become self-evident?? ;-}!)

I'm including a sequence of headers to try to describe what is
happening. The 1st header is how the message arrives via the
editors' list (seredit); the 2nd header shows what the message
looks like as I forward it into the main list (serialst); the
3rd header shows what the header looks like when the message
gets posted to the list.

Any help or insights into why the original header info. is getting lost
and how to recognize this ahead of time would be appreciated.

Thanks.
