Today I decided to delete some outdated files from the WMST-L
file collection. Since I hadn't done this in a while, I decided to
check the instructions in the online listowners' manual for version 1.8c
(which is the version we're running). In the web version I've bookmarked
(revision 1, dated april 4, 1997), in section 8.6, it told me to send a
message to listserv saying
PUT filename.extension PW=XXXXXXXX (DELETE
I did so, replacing the generic w/the specific info. Much to
my surprise, I got back a message from listserv saying
Invalid redistribution specification: "(DELETE".
Huh? Anyone know why I got such a message? I did a quick
search of the LSTOWN-L logfiles for the past year and a half, but
found nothing relevant about (delete .
I should add that I finally DID succeed in deleting the files by
using the old procedure, but I'm curious as to why this (delete business
didn't work as advertised.
Many thanks.
