While my two questions were not specifically addressed, your item 2 is
something I have been worrying about. From the release notes, and comments
from Eric, it seems I may have problems with Pine, which is what I use,
either UNIX (and the new LISTSERV "anti-spam" stuff will not work with
UNIX, per comments and notes) or LINUX. I use it because it allows me to
edit at need. I also have my mail set not to read any attachment of any
description; it is as if they do not exist which is fine with me. I
anticipate problems.

If I recall correctly, the notes say that putting NOMIME in the
SENDER= keyword may, or may not, help with PINE. Is that correct? If so,
will it really help?

I must say that, in looking at the release notes for 1.8e, I do not see
much that is an "improvement" for my purposes and much which may be
detrimental. Of course, these days it is the commercial, rather than
academic, sector which gets what it wants. Where would LSOFT be if Eric
had not done a great deal of development of LISTSERV for academic use under
the aegis of EARN before going commercial with LSOFT?
