I don't think he should have to change the name of the list (which
could create more hassles that the presenting problem) in this case.
Suggestions by Pete and Nathan were good ones because they addressed
the reason "why", presumably a listserv maintainer, would want to
configure listserv at their site to operate in isolation.  At some
point however, the reasons, and even the analogy, become irrelevant
when it is clear that the person doesn't "buy" the logic.  While I
wouldn't presume to know under what conditions Eric would or wouldn't
unregister a server, quite frankly, I don't think he cares provided
there is no violation of Lsoft's agreement. If that is what the customer
wants, why not.

Having said that, Nathan or Eric can correct my memory, but as far
as I know listserv can be set up to operate in one of three modes:
1. stand alone 2. satellite mode (requiring a backbone server to pass
on files or 3. backbone server mode.  I can't remember where I read this
but number 1. would give him what he wants and I don't know about number
2.

Finally, the lecture from Dan about "Listserv is a SYSTEM..." etc.
is out of date and represents a limited view.  Just last week I was
talking about the possibility of licensing a second machine for very
sensitive material for committees, and in the business world this isn't
unheard of.  I would like to think that on this list and on the
the lstsrv-l list that listserv maintainers and list owners using
listserv in such a way would NOT be subject to a lecture on someone's
"vision of the listserv world" but receive as much assistance as
someone running and operating lists on a backbone server.
