Could this be at all related to the fact that the listserv installation
here, when it processes updates, has been trying unsuccessfully to send
mail to io.jovian.net for the past week?

Could information not be updated as it should be? Or perhaps it is just
that the Internet providers of these subscribers are having problems and
they coincidentally happened at the same time?

Perhaps the messages to these subscribers are sitting in the queue at
your local mail server? Or they go timed out on delivery and the errors
went to the postmaster at your site instead of to you or they were
bounced by the mail server at the other end and the errors went to the
postmaster at your site instead of you? (That happens here all the
time.)
