Yup.
Douglas & I had a discussion a while back on this thread. VirusCreeps like to target Microsoft Products, either because they dislike MS, the people who use MS products or because MS makes it so dang easy for them via broken or leaky code.

Of course the real issue is the writers themselves - flogging? Until then it's up to users and admins. Virus protection is only as good as what it knows about - one's AV engine needs to be current & dat files of known viruses needs to be current.

You can have all the latest and still be hit by a new virus because the AV folks haven't had a chance to implement protection yet

Also, if you have Outlook set to preview pane with HTML enabled, you don't even have to open the mail message to be infected with certain viruses. The open preview pane qualifies as open, the bug is in the HTML code.

One of these days these folks are gonna drive me to selling tomatoes out of a pickup truck along side the road. At least you can see those bugs! ;->

End of rant...

Doug

Subject: Re: Where is best Klez info?

My Outlook/Exchange account at the University is being bombarded with
Klez. Fortunately the University is running Antigen on the Exchange
server which defangs the virus before delivering the message. I
actually tried to open one of those messages, which look perfectly
innocent, before I realized what it was. I might have been infected
without even opening the attachment, if it had been a virus that my
antivirus software didn't catch. It's been pretty sobering. It's
certainly left me somewhat...ummm...unsettled...and I know I'm not
infected. It seems to me that using Outlook as an e-mail client is
just an open invitation to have a virus come and infect your machine.

So far, the only Klez message that I've gotten at *this* account (the
one I'm posting from) is the one that was sent through this very list
a few months ago. I'm not sure why the difference...

I just want to emphasize the point that being repeatedly hit with Klez
is disturbing even if you don't get infected.
