I doubt LISTSERV has any such facility, but, even if it did or you do
something with another system, you'd want to avoid such an approach. There
are numerous compression formats; your recipients would need a program that
could decipher whicver format you went with, and you'd have to deal with
complaints from those who didn't like your format or can't get software for
their computer. And, you'd have to use some sort of binary to ASCII
converter to make sure that mail gateways don't munch things, and those
programs have the same problems as compression programs.
 
Much better would be to break the digest into parts; isn't there a
threshold setting for digests, where LISTSERV sends out the digest if it
reaches that size?
