On the subject of Error Message Blues (which *is* an appropriate topic
for this list!), I wanted to point out again that the Owner Digest
concept contains all owner mail - errors, notifications, owner mailbox,
listserv daily monitoring report, and so on. The Owner Digest is a
custom list I set up at our site, an experiment, using mail filters, so that
error messages are only 60 lines long (even rejected digests; all are
truncated). It gets rid of the excessive size of the errors (like
digests) and makes your inbox much simpler, since you only get 1 message
per day. You just forward that one message to listserv, and cut and
paste for whatever work you need to do; fast and simple.

At the end I quote 2 messages that appeared on Lstown recently - first from
a fellow listowner, who wants a better error handling facility. Second, is
from Eric himself, in reply to Kathleen. Eric says that listserv both
"summarizes" and "forwards" the errors; but I don't see any "summary".
Just forwarding. And with all the volume that requires, when it is digests
that are bouncing.

As the Internet grows, this situation will get worse. More members, more
messages, larger lists, and so on. We need something like the
Owner Digest to help manage all of this. Imagine your 500 member list
going to 5000 members; our workloads will only increase with time (as
does LSoft's... <grin>).

I am hoping that more people on this list will like the idea of an Owner
Digest, and post about it so LSoft will think more about building such a
facility into Listserv. I wish this list were larger, though; the
majority of LSoft Listserv list owners are not reading this message.
