Invitation for Participation in 3Kings Poetry Project

ljc/3kings/3kings.html)

PLEASE FORWARD TO ANY INDIVIDUALS/LISTS WHICH MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN THIS
PROJECT, ESPECIALLY LISTS FOR CREATIVE WRITERS AND GRAPHIC ARTISTS/DESIGNERS.
************************************************

Howdy, Folks!

This is my first rude, crude attempt at creating a
hypertextual-hypermedia-poetical-graphical-technical project on WWW. I have
taken a poem I wrote the day after the LA riots of 1992, converted it to
html, and posted it on the web.

I intend for this to be an interactive site in that readers can respond to
the text (and graphics, as they are added) as they read--I will then post
responses and responses to responses as they come in (if I can keep up!).
If you have used the Storyspace hypertext authoring software before, you'll
be familiar with the concept.

If you haven't used Storyspace (shame on you), that's okay--each page
contains a link to a "submit" form in which you write your verbal response
(instructions included--and for a graphical response [original work only,
please], you can send it as an attachment to an e-mail message [verbal
responses can also be sent as attachments to e-mail messages, but please
indicate which word/phrase/stanza/graphic you are responding to], put it on
a server where I can download it through anonymous ftp, send me the url if
it's already posted on the web, send it to me on a disk, or even mail me the
artwork/photograph/printout and I'll scan it in)!

This project began as a Storyspace web which 15 people contributed to (not
all of their links are attached yet, but I'm getting there!). Thank you,
NEH (call your congressperson!), for sponsoring the 4-week summer institute
at Genessee College in Batavia, New York, from which this project evolved.

Please remember, this is my first attempt at such a project, so it is far
from perfect. I would appreciate any feedback as far as page design, etc.
Please check the site every few days to see if your contributions have been
included or added to/commented upon.

I am basing this project on all kinds of literary theories, collaborative
writing theories, social-construction of knowledge/information theories,
visual literacy theories, etc., and hope to present the findings at
Computers & Writing, ACM's Hypertext conference, or in some journal. Heck,
I might even end up changing my dissertation and using this project as the
catalyst for 400 pages of Web-shattering conclusions!

Seriously, though, please read 3Kings, enjoy, contribute, experiment, link
to it, suggest links from 3Kings,tell your friends about it, or whatever.
Just have fun . . .

Thanks!

Larry

p.s. You can get to 3Kings directly by typing in the url listed at the
beginning of this message, or link to it from my home page at the url listed
below. If you are teaching or contemplating teaching any courses on the
web, you may also want to check out the four courses I have online this fall
(simply click on "course schedule" underneath FALL 1995--feel free to
borrow/steal anything you find there, if it is of use to you or someone you
know . . . you will undoubtedly notice that I've borrowed/stolen more than a
bit myself--but isn't that what the Web is all about--collaboration and
sharing and all that stuff we learned in Kindergarten?) God, I love this
stuff . . .
