Well the solution to the problem is easy. The underscore is an invalid
character in DNS addresses and I can't believe people wrote and sell a
SMTP that actively uses it. It only works when you are fortunate enough
to travel along a mail path where all mailers, SMTP servers and name
servers happen not to enforce the RFC. The same goes for the hash sign,
so Compuserve just translates an invalid address into another one. You
can't mail to these addresses from a VM system because IBM's SMTP
enforces the RFC. LISTSERV itself doesn't mind, but it won't make it to
SMTP. The only solution is to change cc:Mail or at least Compuserve. I
know what you will say about the difficulty of this solution; the
alternative is to change the standard and wait 10 years.
