There are established procedures for a node to leave Bitnet.
The document may be had by e-mailing listserv@bitnic or
[log in to unmask] with body-of-text:

get leaving bitnet

The procedure involves a time-period that covers a couple of BITEARN
NODES update cycles (2 or more). Basically, if the procedure is
followed, LISTSERV will take the "hint" that a site's Bitnet users are
to be moved to the equivalent :Internet. host, and that any new
Bitnet-received subscriptions should be immediately converted to the
:Internet address.

This procedure is supposed to be followed by the node's NAD. To display
a node's NAD, ask any LISTSERV:

SHOW NAD bit_node

To see if a node even has an Internet address registered(*) in the
BITEARN NODES db:

SHOW ALIAS bit_node

(*) having a BITEARN NODES :Internet tag does NOT make it an "official"
fully-qualified domain name: that can only be done by the updating
of the Domain Name System, which is outside of Bitnet. Thus the
    :Internet tag could be wrong!
