Some of you may have been aware of this, but this is an FYI for the
others and a question for the Lsoft folks.

Short version:
Early saturday morning 1/15 the domain "panix.com" was hijacked so that
email and web access went astray. The new registrar was in Australia.
The process that did this is still unknown, as the correct registrar
(Dotster) still "thought" it owned it, and the transfer was not done
through the normal channels. As DNS caches TTL expired, the problem
spread around the world. Things were put back by sunday evening 1/16
and it will take till monday evening for all the DNS caches to expire.

If you have panix.com users on your lists, they will have been bounceing
but this will straighten out soon if not already.

Question for the Lsoft folks (you may want to run this by the network
gurus): Throughout this event, lists that I subscribe to which are
hosted on Apple (not sure about Peach) continued to be delivered
properly. Does Lsoft not use the usual DNS systems that expire records
after (usually) 24 hours, or does it internally cache certain domains
on a longer term basis?
