Help for a new list owner

I got an error message from the List server.  How do I find out was is
wrong?

The message was :

Error occurred while processing file 2986 from
[log in to unmask]:

  File is too large to be processed (219518 records).

My logs(SMTPS#2-20010116.LOG) are filling up too
says this:
16 Jan 2001 00:04:26 -> XMRG
FROM:<[log in to unmask]> VERSION=1

16 Jan 2001 00:04:26 500 Command not recognized.

any help would be appreciated.
