I had just last month rewritten the 1.7f DEFAULT$ MAILFORM to correct
the instructions sent out to people whose subscription has expired after
failing to confirm . Then we upgraded to 1.8a, and the The 1.8a upgrade
overwrote our correction!

We just received notice that over 300 people have been sent the
incorrect instructions. Eric, Could you please edit the DEFAULT$
MAILFORM for future versions so this does not happen again!

1. There is no instruction as to which address to send the resubscribe.
(Ideally it would give bith BitNet and Internet addresses, or at
least an instruction to add ".bitnet" to the node name if the person
is sending from an Internet address.)

2. The SUB command as shown is incorrect, as it leaves out the person's
name, and thus will; be rejected by listserv.

We are currently getting scores of Questions and SUB requests via
QUAKER-L-REQUEST

Yes I know that people should know to send commands to listserv (but
they don't know) and should have CONFIRMed their subscription (but they
don't understand the significance of the confirm request). All this
notwithstanding, a few more words of clarification in the message sent
out would have saved us a HUGE amount of time and effort.

Thanks,

Should read something like:

You can resubscribe to it, if you so desire, by sending an e-mail
message to listserv@uiucvmd (from a BitNet node) or to
[log in to unmask] (from an Internet node) saying:

SUBscribe QUAKER-L YourFirstName YourLastName
